In a world filled with noise, my art seeks to create a space for quiet reflection, where the complexities of our existence are distilled into moments of healing, beauty and meaning. — Tonna
As a young child, I found a comforting companion in art. Creating art would impact the way I would process the world. Painting is a place of refuge and reconciliation - where I must be still and listen. I have found that my work serves as a visual diary, capturing the essence of what I personally feel and experience.
I embrace diverse mediums such as acrylics, oils, charcoal, and mixed media. My pieces typically consist of layers of transparent glazes, opaque brushstrokes, intuitive mark-making and more. Glimpses of the underlying history are often revealed in the finished piece. Where other layers remain hidden, I like to think of them as the pieces of me that were a part of the creative process that fed my soul and will live on silently and buried within the painting. A little secret - there is always a spiral mark hidden beneath, in memory of my departed youngest sister.
Whether I’m painting a portrait, a figure, a still life, or a landscape, my intention is the same - to capture a relatable narrative. The stories may emanate from the subject itself or reflect the nuances of my personal journey. I share my art in hopes that viewers might discover that their own sentiments and experiences are expressed with authenticity and vulnerability. My current figure series is an invitation to introspection and contemplation. I hope to inspire viewers, especially female viewers, to question, to feel, and to find comfort in the shared human experience. In a world filled with noise, my art seeks to create a space for quiet reflection, where the complexities of our existence are distilled into moments of healing, beauty and meaning.
